Pinhead BISHOUJO Introduction

Hi everyone!

Have you seen our new Pinhead BISHOUJO statue yet?
Today I have an introduction from the product planner for the statue, Shogun!

-Mr. A

Hello, it’s Shogun! (^◒^)

At long last, the time has come!

Available March 2019/$109.99

From the illustration to the sculpt, it’s been a step by step process, but now I can finally show her to you in her full beauty!

Thank you for waiting!

For those of you who are seeing this for the first time, I’d like to introduce all the details in this post!

*Content Warning: please proceed with caution if you cannot handle gore.

What is Hellraiser?

The Hellraiser films are based on the novella The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker and directed by Barker himself.

The story of Hellraiser revolves around Lemarchand’s Box, a puzzle box that acts as a portal to a realm of new carnal pleasures.

Pinhead is the leader of a group of beings called Cenobites, that are summoned from the puzzle box.

What are the carnal pleasures promised by Lemarchand’s Box?
What are the grotesque creatures known as Cenobites, and what is their goal?

If you want to know for yourself, I recommend that you watch the films!

The story, the setting, the music, and the visuals are all completely original!

It definitely makes my personal top 5.
It’s not all serious, but has several moments that will make you chuckle as well. I can’t recommend it enough!
You should be able to find it on one of the streaming services.

*But again, please be careful if you can’t handle gore or violence.

What is the appeal of Hellraiser?

As I wrote above, the Hellraiser series is great, but after watching them several times over, I’ve decided that the most appealing point of the series is the contrast you see in the films.
(This is just my personal opinion of course!)
I think the Japanese slogan from the 5th movie, Hellraiser: Inferno captures this well. Translated, it’s “Ultimate pain is the ultimate pleasure.”

It captures the atmosphere of the overall series quite well.

“Painful but pleasurable,” “Ugly but beautiful,” “Life and Death.”
There are so many contrasting forces that it’s too much to count.
And Hellraiser is a series that shows the balance between it all.

In order to portray that contrast in the form of a figure, we joined forces with illustrator Shunya Yamashita and sculptor Takaboku Busujima (BUSUJIMAX).
It took longer to create than some of our other products, but in the end it’s finally here!
And she’s a beauty!

About the Design

Here’s the original illustration!

As I mentioned above, this expertly arranged character illustration was created by BISHOUJO series illustrator Shunya Yamashita (@shunyayamashita).
My two main requests for Yamashita-sensei were:

A gory yet elegant appearance.

A majestic expression and divine aura.

There were a lot of twists and turns during the design process, and I am very thankful for Yamashita-sensei’s cooperation recreating the image revision after revision.

Now, let’s take a look at the elaborate design!

For her breasts, we went with a bondage inspired design with the skin cut open and held back with bondage.

The hooks piercing the skin add to the decorative aesthetic.
There’s also a lot of detail in the creasing of the skin on her abdomen, which is pierced with a large pin. (That’s gotta hurt…)

If you look closely, you’ll notice that for the Cenobites in the films, the fingers that are exposed differ by character.

Pinhead has all of his fingers exposed except for the thumb and pinky fingers.

We decided to keep this characteristic on the BISHOUJO to reflect the original character!

The pictures above show off the statue’s fingertips!
For the BISHOUJO, we added bloodstains to the tips of her fingers.

The red really stands out against the pale blue color of her skin.

Her stiletto heels are actually piercing her feet!

It looks painful, but it also gives the Cenobite a nice feminine touch.
The glimpses of pain that you catch behind her beautiful appearance are reminiscent of a ballerina.

Considering the effort we put into the design of her feet, we wanted to avoid using spacers (the support blocks you often see that help figures to stand on their own). This required a lot of adjustments in order to get the balance just right.

And that’s just one feature of the extremely intricate design!

About the Sculpting

In order to bring this highly detailed design to life, we enlisted the help of sculptor Takaboku Busujima (BUSUJIMAX)!

If you look closely at her bondage outfit, you will see a lot of details in the lines on the surface, the different layers, and the way the wrinkles form around the curves of her body all give the material the appearance of high quality leather. The original Pinhead’s outfit appears to be made of a variety of materials. By including all of these details, we wanted to create a design that pays homage to the original.

And of course, the pins!

We made them as small as possible for a product of this size. We thought about using actual pins, but for the sake of preserving the quality of the product and making it safe and easy for customers to take care of, we ended up with this design.

How did we do it?!
You’ll have to hear about that from us another time!

Her flowing skirt is also beautifully constructed.
The open Lemarchand’s Box gives Pinhead the illusion of having landed on the box.
The patterns on the box are also amazing.
The clear plastic base will not be included on the final product!
The base gives you even more of a sense of immersion in the world of Hellraiser.

One more detail about the base!
When you look at it from the front, it’s a beautiful Lemarchand’s Box.
But from the back it looks like this!
To use a grotesque expression, it looks like taut, dried skin.

Keeping in mind the “beautiful yet grotesque” image of the series, this was the base design we decided on.

Well, what do you think?

Here’s a photo with blue lighting, designed to look like the scenes the Cenobites appear in the films.
The angle makes it look simultaneously like she’s looking down on you with both disdain and affection.

I hope you’ll pick it up and check all the details out for yourself!

Pre-Orders are available now and will end around early November, so make sure to check with your local retailer.
If you don’t pre-order there’s a high chance you won’t be able to buy this afterwards. Don’t miss your chance!
