I hope this blog will help to show the appeal of the statue and the MY LITTLE PONY series to those who aren’t familiar with it!
MY LITTLE PONY is a popular toy and animated series created by American toy and entertainment company Hasbro and has charmed children throughout the world over the past several decades. The brand was brought to life through toys in 1983 and followed with an animated series.
The brand was reimagined in 2010 in the form of an animated show known as My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, which became popular with adults as well as children and became a cultural phenomenon.
From the 1980s to this day, the franchise is widely beloved by people throughout the world!
Here is Shunya Yamashita’s rendition of Twilight Sparkle.
The BISHOUJO’s appearance is based on the My Little Pony: Equestria Girls film, where the ponies from Friendship is Magic go through a magic mirror to become human girls. It is not an exact representation of that character design, but rather a unique illustration that features lots of small details that represent the pony’s personality from the series as a whole.
This is the final version of the illustration that took shape as we discussed the character and design with Hasbro.
Twilight Sparkle loves books, and might be just the slightest bit too hardworking.
She came to Ponyville to learn about the importance of friendship.
Her studious side really shines through from the tips of her fingers perched on the frame of her glasses and the way she wears her smart outfit to the tips of her flowing hair.
Here’s a look at the sculpt and the paint master side by side!
We put lots of attention into her signature pink accents.
Following in the footsteps of the first MY LITTLE PONY BISHOUJO, Pinkie Pie, the adorable and realistic sculpt was created by the popular ke (@comaccow_ke)!
In contrast with Pinkie Pie, Twilight Sparkle’s hair is straight and silky!
The BISHOUJO’s hair and skirt and the pony statue at her feet all have a wonderful sense of movement. I hope you’ll check it out in person for yourself!
The book in her hands, which holds the power of the Elements of Harmony, has a nice sense of weight.
While crisply pleated, Twilight’s skirt, which bears a design based on Twilight Sparkle’s Cutie Mark, also flows nicely. The beautiful detailing on the skirt is also a highlight.
Depending on the angle, you can see Twilight walking gallantly towards a bright future with her friends at her side.
The realistic detail of the back of her knees is all thanks to ke (comaccow)’s sculpting expertise!
The lenses of her glasses are made with clear plastic.
Even from behind her glasses, you can see the kindness in her eyes.
The base is printed with a Twilight-inspired pattern.
From the tips of her hair to the base, this statue of Twilight Sparkle is packed with detail!
And at her feet is a Twilight Sparkle pony!
We worked very hard to get her just right.
We used our experience and research on cuteness from creating Pinkie Pie to create the perfect MY LITTLE PONY silhouette. She’s an adorable rendition of Twilie from every angle!
In order to give the pony statue a nice floaty appearance, we added a special magical effect part as a base.
The mysterious shape and appearance of clear base is befitting of this adept magic user!
Here’s what the pony looks like from behind. The vivid pink streak looks great against her dark, sleek hair.
I’d also like to point out the airy, lightweight posing of her legs.
We also kept the three-dimensional eyelashes that were so popular on Pinkie Pie!
Twilight Sparkle’s expression was more difficult to recreate, since her eyes are open, but it turned out natural and beautiful.
Like Pinkie Pie before her, the Twilight Sparkle pony was sculpted by Wataru Orita (@workroom_orita)
I hope you’ll have the chance to see it in person!
The lineup was revealed the other day in honor of Wonder Festival Winter 2019!
The whole Mane Six is here!
Each pony’s pose is unique, and we took a lot of care to make sure each character’s traits were represented in the BISHOUJO versions.
We’ll continue to give it our all in order to deliver them all to you!
